St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Endowment Fund exists to provide a partial source of continuing funding for the life and programs of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. Gifts to the Endowment Fund do not subsidize the regular budget of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. The Endowment Fund gives everyone the opportunity to make memorial gifts for one who has died or gifts of celebration in thanksgiving to God. All persons who are remembered and all times of thanksgiving are recorded in the Book of Remembrance which is kept in the narthex of the church. The Book of Common Prayer instructs us to make wills for the disposal of our temporal goods and, when possible, to leave bequests for religious and charitable uses. The Endowment Fund also provides a means for persons to make bequests to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, knowing that such gifts will be used wisely. Purposes of the Fund The Endowment Fund is made up of the following sub-funds: Unresticted Sub-Fund - The unrestricted Sub-Fund of the Endowment Fund may be used for any purpose as determined by the Vestry. Aesthetics Sub-Fund - Items to enrich our worship or enhance the beauty of grounds and buildings. Building Maintenance and Equipment Sub-Fund - Purchase, repair or replacement of equipment and maintenance of building. Grounds Sub-Fund - Landscaping and maintenance of grounds. Outreach Sub-fund - Work outside the parish to assist in Christian mission and service to people in need, and work to spread the message of the Gospel. Music Sub-Fund - Repair of the organ or other musical instruments and programs to enrich the music ministry of the parish. Memorial Garden Sub-Fund - Maintenance and improvements to St. Matthew’s Garden, a memorial to those parishioners who have passed on. Children’s Fund Sub-Fund - Programs to benefit children and young people in and outside the parish. Building Sub-Fund - Additions or major improvements to the building. Marriage and Family Sub-Fund – Programs supportive of marriage and family life.
Administration and Management The Endowment Fund is administered by Trustees, all of who are members of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. The Trustees of the Fund will take into consideration the wishes of the family or the donor as to the use of the bequest or gift. If gifts are not designated, they will be placed in the unrestricted endowment fund and the earnings will be used as needed for the ministry and mission of the Parish.
