If you're visiting St. Matthew's, have been coming for a while, would like to chat with others about this parish community, or just want to find out what goes on around this place, this is for you. A couple vestry members and a clergy person will be on hand to welcome you. This is a good time, too, to get to know others who are discovering St. Matthew's and all that this church has to offer. We hope you'll join us. Welcome! |

| Dear Newcomer,
What a time to arrive at St. Matthew’s! We have just finished two years of construction. Our sanctuary is beautifully renovated and restored, our office space has expanded, we have more meeting rooms and classrooms, and we have a whole new building: Saints Hall.
It’s an exciting time. For some years now, we have pondered and prayed, dreamed and talked, met and met and met. Together, as a congregation, we built a vision for new space—space for worship, education, fellowship and ministry. We wanted to do more, welcome more people, and, as our Mission Statement says, reach out as Christ’s hands to the world.
A capital campaign called Building the Spirit was launched in March of 2005, and to date we have raised over $3.6 million. Unfortunately, our timing was bad in that construction costs soared in 2005 (Katrina didn’t help!). But the Vestry and I unanimously decided to complete our entire project, even if it meant going into debt. The solid support and enthusiasm of the congregation has convinced us that this was the right decision.
As a result, our campaign continues, and we’d like to invite you to get involved in building for our future—YOUR future. Perhaps you are still thinking about this new place you have landed called St. Matthew’s, and you’re not ready to make a commitment to a building campaign. That’s fine! But if you would like to get on board, and be part of a great adventure, I ask you to consider prayerfully a pledge to Building the Spirit. It can be paid at once, or over 2, 3 or 4 years. It can be paid monthly, annually, or any way you like. It can be taken automatically from your bank account, if that is convenient for you.
I’d be glad to talk with you at any time about this, as would Bo Nixon or David Brooks, our Capital Campaign Co-Chairs.

Click here to see a list of committees in the parish. | Stewardship | As a newcomer, you may need to take a while to get to know us, to wrestle with this thing called Christian Faith, to study this entity called the Episcopal Church. Please take all the time you need. Part of our calling is to be open to all people, at whatever point in their spiritual journeys they may find themselves. When the time comes that you want to make a commitment to Christ in this particular parish, we will ask you to think about Stewardship. Christians believe that everything we have comes from God: our money, our time, our skills, our very lives. So the Christian life is a life of stewardship s we endeavor to discern what God would have us do with the gifts we are given. Christian commitment involves the discipline of stewardship of time, talent and treasure. If you are ready to make a commitment of time and talent to St. Matthew’s, please complete the enclosed card and indicate where your skills might be best used. If you are ready to make a financial commitment to St. Matthew’s, please complete the Intention of Giving card. If you are not ready to make these commitments, please know that it makes no difference whatsoever to us as we say You are welcome here in the name of Christ. | Weekday Study and Prayer Groups | Monday mornings: Bible Study Group: 9:45 a.m.—A clergy-led Bible Study meets weekly in the Lounge.
