The Karen family we sponsored four years ago is doing well. And is still living in the same apartments. The children talk about renting a house but Ah Mu and Ku Ku seem to prefer to stay with what they know and understand. Ah Mu works in the laundry at the Galt House and Ku Ku works for a box making company. Both have worked long enough that each gets medical benefits. Ku Ku has a beautiful vegetable garden that she raises on a free plot in South Louisville. She is very proud of her produce.
Pae Dah (Ah Mu's
mother) does not work.
She continues to weave and most days she attends ESL at
the Americana Community Center.
We seldom see her when we visit or tutor the children
because she is such a social butterfly.
Fadi's mother,
brother and sister are in an apartment complex located just down
the street from Sally and Fadi. Fadi's brother is working full
time but his sister has not found work, possibly because she has
no high school degree and limited English.
Fadi's mother is not working because she cannot be on her
feet for long periods of time.
She has done some sewing in a group at KRM and would love
to find a sewing position.
The Badri family is so very happy and independent.
Their resettlement has occurred beautifully. St. Matthew's
parishioners are to be congratulated for assisting these
families in their transition to American life.
Your contribution HAS made such a difference.
Thank you all. |
