Opportunities for Service in the Parish

There are many opportunities for you to donate your time and talents at St. Matthew.  Listed below are a few of those opportunities.  Click here for more information about opportunities for service at St. Matthew's or contact the persons mention below.  Also check the Happenings Page, the Newsletter and bulletin board out side the parish office for service opportunity announcements.

Acolytes  

This is a group of persons, 6th through 12th grade, who are trained to assist at worship services.

Altar Guild

 The Altar Guild cares for the altar linens and vessels.  The members assist the clergy with preparations for weddings, baptisms, confirmations, funerals, in addition to all regularly scheduled services.  They also decorate the church at Christmas and Easter.  Some arrange the Sunday flowers and deliver flowers to the sick and shut-ins each week.  The Altar Guild is open to anyone interested in serving. 

Casserole Ministry

This ministry provides food for the ill and bereaved parishioners. Help is need in both cooking and delivering.

Child Care Helpers

These volunteers assist regular sitters with our little ones during the church hour on an occasional basis.  For more information, contact our Director of Christian Education at 897-3485 or education@stmatt-ky.org.  Also, check out the Children’s Program Page.

Music

The adult choir practices on Wednesday evenings 7:45 – 9:00 p.m. from approximately September to June.  There are also several other voice and handbell choirs.  For more information contact our Organist/Choirmaster at 895-3485 or music@stmatt-ky.org Also, check out the Music Program Page.

Coffee Hour

These volunteers sign up for one Sunday or more to make, set up, serve, and clean up coffee during Church School.  In the summer months, helpers set up and serve lemonade outside.  Complete instructions are provided.  Sign up sheets are on the bulletin board outside the parish office.

Foyers

These are monthly dinners in parishioners’ homes in groups of 10-12 people.  If you are interested in taking part in one of these groups contact the Parish Coordinator.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers

These are trained and licensed men and women, chosen by the Rector, who assist in administering the Eucharist.

Lectors

These men and women, after a local training session, read the Scripture and Prayers of the People during worship services.  They include both youth and adult lectors. If you are interested, speak to one of the clergy, the rector at rector@stmatt-ky.org, the parish coordinator at parish@stmatt-ky.org, or the pastoral associate at hjones@stmatt-ky.org  You can also call them at 895-3485.

Retired Men 

These men to repairs, replace light bulbs, etc, at the church on Monday mornings.  

Ushers 

These men and women serve on a rotating basis as the Sunday Eucharist.  This is an important part of the welcoming ministry of the church. They include both youth and adult ushers. 

Welcomers  

This is a rotating group of persons who greet newcomers before and after the Sunday services.  Like the ushers, this is an essential part of our welcoming ministry.
